The thought terrified her more than anything. Yet as she lay down on her narrow cot, she felt a flicker of something else: determination. The horses were her family. Her home. And she would fight for them, even if it meant stepping into the world that had never wanted her. She closed her eyes, and the last thing she saw was Stardust's gentle face, ears pricked forward in the dim light of the barn. Her sanctuary. Her strength. Tomorrow, she would begin.
