…They moved towards the door, not as a group of friends, but as survivors, bound by a shared trauma, their eyes constantly scanning the shadows, the corners, the very air around them. The house watched them go, its silence no longer benign, but pregnant with a terrible, waiting malevolence. The last thing Liam saw as they stepped out into the pale moonlight was the reflection in the dusty window of the house behind them. For a fleeting second, he thought he saw a pair of eyes, burning with ancient, unholy light, watching them depart. Then, it was gone, leaving only the dark, imposing silhouette of the house against the night sky.
