…I took the board, my hands trembling slightly. "Thanks," I managed, a huge grin splitting my face. "So," Sam piped up, bouncing on the balls of his feet, "does this mean we can all play now?" Kai looked at his friends, then back at us. He shrugged. "Why not? We’re all here, right?" A sense of relief washed over me, followed by a wave of something even better: friendship. The rivalry, the suspicion, it all melted away under the summer sun. We had our game back, and we’d made new friends in the process. The great summer playground escape was turning out to be even better than I’d imagined.
