Behind them, the gate back to the tower flickered and died. “It knows we’re here,” Lena said. From the rift, a sound emerged. Not a roar, but a whisper. A thousand voices, tangled together, speaking in unison: “You cannot heal what has no beginning. You cannot love what has no heart. Turn back, or be unmade.” Elias gripped the seed tighter. “We’re not turning back.” They stepped into the rift together, and the darkness swallowed them whole.
