…They crossed the threshold together. The world dissolved into light, then color, then nothing. And when it solidified again, they were standing in a place that shouldn’t exist—a vast hall of mirrors, each reflecting a different sky, a different world, a different possibility. And in the center of the hall, waiting, was a figure cloaked in silver. “You’re early,” the figure said. Its voice was neither male nor female, old nor young. “But we’ve been expecting you.” The mirrors rippled. And in each one, a different threat took shape. The real fight was just beginning.
