…The door pulsed. The garden beyond it flickered—their garden, their home, their peace. Elias looked at Anya. At Lena. At Lyra. "We stay," he said. But the Maker laughed, hollow and broken. "You can't stay. You don't belong here. Only the child does." Lyra's eyes went wide. The silver light around her flared, and she was pulled toward the Maker's darkness. "Lyra!" Lena lunged, but the darkness swallowed her daughter whole. And the wooden door slammed shut, locking them out. The only sound was Lyra's voice, distant and calm: "It's okay, Mom. I know what to do." Then silence. And the Maker began to wake.
