Alive. “We’ll find a way to free you,” she said. “I promise.” The seed-tree’s branch outside the room flared, and a new voice whispered—not the void’s, not the bartender’s, but Elias’s, faint as a breath. “I know you will.” And then the baby laughed, a small, pure sound that broke the silence and filled the room with light.
