…I looked at the journal again, the dim light glinting off the worn leather. The task ahead was daunting, the coded messages a labyrinth of secrecy. But for the first time since arriving back in Blackridge, I felt a flicker of something akin to hope. This journal was the key. It was the first clue. And I wouldn't stop until I decoded every last word, no matter how dangerous the truth might be. The shadows in the study seemed to deepen, but within them, a new resolve hardened within me.
