The medical community, or at least its representative here, was deeply entangled. And the disappearances weren't just folklore; they involved tangible, physical elements that only a doctor might have witnessed or documented. He was either complicit, or a victim himself, trapped in the same web as everyone else in this town. But his fear, his desperate plea, confirmed one thing: the list, and the secrets it protected, were far more powerful, and far more deadly, than I had ever dared to believe.
