…As the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of fire and amethyst, Maiden walked back to her cabin, the wooden charm clutched tightly in her hand. The night would come again, and with it, the presence. But now, the prospect no longer filled her with unadulterated dread. A new feeling had taken root, a seed of understanding that was slowly, tentatively, beginning to bloom. She was not alone. She was not crazy. She was something more. And the journey to understand what that ‘more’ entailed had just begun.
