The lure was powerful, a siren song promising to silence his worries, to fulfill his deepest desires. He found himself drawn to the glowing numbers, the promise of a life free from the gnawing anxiety of poverty. He started to invest, small amounts at first, then larger ones, each withdrawal a little victory, each deposit a step closer to the dream. The heavy heart he’d carried from Lithuania began to lighten, replaced by a buoyant, almost giddy, sense of hope. He was on his way. He was finally winning.
