…The whispers of Maya’s murder were a death knell for the boy he was, but they were also the ignition for the man he would have to become. The streets had shown him their worst, their most brutal face. Now, he had to find a way to turn his back on them, to bury this part of himself so deep that even the shadows couldn't find it. He needed a new life, a new name, a new beginning. He needed to disappear from this world, before it swallowed him whole, just like it had swallowed Maya. The thought was a cold comfort, a desperate, necessary lie he would have to live. The concrete bottom had been reached, and now, there was nowhere to go but up, and for that, he would need a new hand to play.
