…Gable talking, their voices a gentle melody in the background. He noticed how Mom’s shoulders seemed a little less tense, how her smile was now a soft, contented curve. He understood, then, that Mom still loved him, still had time for him. Mrs. Gable wasn't a replacement for Dad, or a competitor for Mom's affection. She was just… a friend. And it was okay for Mom to have friends. It was okay for love to be big enough to include more than just the people you expected. It was like a garden, he thought, where different flowers could bloom side-by-side, each with its own beauty. And maybe, just maybe, he could learn to appreciate the different kinds of blooms.
