…The whispers of the crown were a constant stream now, a desperate plea for him to be wise, to be strong. He could feel the weight of his parents’ memory, the silent plea from the earth beneath his feet. He was no longer just Kael, the orphaned boy. He was Kael, the Chief Priest, and his people depended on him. As the first of the attackers lunged forward, Kael raised his staff. The symbols carved into it seemed to glow with a faint, inner light. He didn't know what power resided within him, or within the Crown, but he knew he had to try. The whispers were no longer just warnings; they were a call to action. And Kael, for the first time, felt ready to answer.
