…With a desperate cry, Nadine threw herself forward, aiming for the heartstone. She didn’t know what she would do when she reached it, only that she had to break the connection, to shatter the illusion. As her fingers brushed against the rough, cool surface of the stone, a blinding flash of light erupted, followed by a deafening roar that drowned out the chanting, the wind, and her own scream.
