Generations of Wallachians came before him. But Vlad gave the fortress its most famous chapter. And after Vlad was gone, Poenari continued to live its own life for decades. That makes the castle more than "Vlad Dracula's castle." It is a physical piece of Wallachian history stretching across centuries. And perhaps that's why I think your interest in the castle is so understandable. There is something profoundly moving about standing in a place where so many generations lived, fought, loved, feared and eventually disappeared.
