…Morwenna screamed, a sound of pure agony and disbelief as her own power turned against her. The dark vortex around her imploded, and with a final, shuddering gasp, the enchantress dissolved into a puff of black dust, carried away by a sudden, gentle breeze that swept through the now-weakened workshop. The oppressive darkness vanished, replaced by the soft, dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves. The menacing howl of the wind died down, replaced by the gentle rustling of branches. And then, from the newly opened doorway, a faint, tentative sound reached Elara’s ears. A single, clear note, pure and sweet. It was the song of a real bird. The silence had been broken.
