The chronicles of Ed the Warrior

Previously

…As the sun slid low, painting golden stripes across the floor, Ed felt the weight of his helmet a little lighter. Layia leaned against him, yawning contentedly, while Catherine bustled about, making sure all were fed. A gentle peace settled over the table. Underneath it, Layia slipped her hand into Ed’s. She caught Sofia’s soft smile and squeezed Ed’s fingers. “I like it here,” she whispered. “It’s almost like home.” Ed’s heart warmed. He wondered, just for a moment, if maybe—just maybe—a new story was beginning for all of them. And above the gentle laughter, the secrets of his past waited patiently, ready for the right moment to be shared.
