She looked back at Ed, her expression soft. “Ed?” “Yes?” “I am glad you are my father.” Ed’s eyes stung. He swallowed hard. “I am glad you are my daughter, Layia.” She beamed, then dashed off across the square, her shield bouncing against her back. Ed watched her go, and for the first time in ten years, he felt like he was exactly where he was supposed to be.
