…"You did it!" she cried. "You saved us!" Ed held her close, the sun pendant pressed between them. "I did what anyone would do." But as he looked over Layia's head, he saw Mystica standing at the edge of the square. She smiled—a small, knowing smile—and then turned and walked away, disappearing into the crowd. Ed looked down at Layia, then at the pendant on her chest, then at the villagers gathered around him, cheering his name. Maybe, he thought, I'm starting to remember who I am. And somewhere, just beyond the edge of hearing, Angel Solis whispered, "One step at a time, Ed. One step at a time."
