Together.” Somewhere beyond the lantern light, a soft shimmer watched over them, and Angel Solis’s voice drifted like wind across water, so quiet that only their hearts could hear. “The star has fallen, and he is near. But you have each other.” A pause, like a smile in the dark. “That is a shield no enemy can break.” The lanterns glowed. The villagers laughed. And Layia, gripping her sun-shaped shield, smiled at the falling star instead of hiding from it. The next adventure was coming. And she would be ready.
