…He had struck the first blow, a silent, invisible strike that would resonate through the empire’s very foundation. The granaries of Province A were compromised. The chain of kings, he mused, was only as strong as its weakest link, and he was meticulously, scientifically, dismantling it, one link at a time. The people of Willow Creek, and soon, many more, were beginning to understand that something was fundamentally wrong with their food, and that the empire, in its gilded ignorance, was utterly incapable of fixing it.
