…She carefully placed the calling card in her evidence bag, then picked up her coat. The office was quiet now, the city outside humming with its own nocturnal rhythm. She needed to revisit Mrs. Higgins’ house. She needed to see that scuff mark for herself. And perhaps, just perhaps, she needed to start paying a little more attention to the shadows, to the subtle nudges, to the mysteries that weren’t so mundane after all.
