…I scrambled to my feet, my heart leaping into my throat. The crude gladius felt heavy and alien in my hand. I looked around wildly, the flickering torchlight casting grotesque shadows that danced like specters. Somewhere in this chaos, my ancestor might be. But right now, my only ancestor was the fear clawing at me. I was no longer Leo, the curious boy with a locket. I was Leo Thorne, a soldier, conscripted into chaos, about to face a battle I knew nothing about, armed with nothing but a desperate hope and a dull blade. The quest had truly begun, not with a quest for knowledge, but with a desperate fight for survival.
