…She squeezed my arm. “Anytime, Luna. Anytime.” As we walked back towards the school, the sun casting long shadows across the grass, I knew things had shifted. The allure of the pill bottle, the siren song of oblivion, felt a little less potent. The fear of Mr. Abernathy was still there, a dark stain on my psyche, but it was no longer the only thing I felt. There was something else, something fragile and new, blooming in the space that terror had occupied. It was the terrifying, exhilarating possibility that maybe, just maybe, I wasn’t entirely alone. And that, in itself, was a kind of terrifying, beautiful, and very Luna-esque kind of miracle.
