…Lin squinted at the sign. “An echo of laughter? What does that even mean?” Feng, already peering into the dark woods, shivered. “I don’t know. But I have a feeling it’s going to involve more singing. Or possibly, more frogs.” As they stepped into the shadows of the trees, a faint, distant sound reached their ears. It wasn’t the gurgling of the river, nor the croaking of frogs. It was a sound that made their hearts ache with a mixture of longing and a familiar, exasperated affection. It was the sound of Sheng, laughing. And it was, undeniably, an echo.
