…He was so caught up in the intricate workings of his investigation, he almost missed the glint of movement in the alleyway across the street. A figure, cloaked in shadow, watching him. He’d felt it before, a prickling sensation on the back of his neck. The feeling of being observed. Silas was aware. His paranoia was growing, and Josh’s probing was only making him more desperate. The game had just escalated. He had the pieces, but now he had to assemble them before Silas could tear the whole damn thing down, and take him with it. The mechanic’s gambit was underway, and the stakes were higher than any engine he’d ever rebuilt.
