…Her words hung in the air, a chilling dismissal. Keller looked crestfallen, his dreams of adventure beginning to fray at the edges. I, however, felt a prickle of something akin to understanding. The sea had led us here, to this quiet, wary land. It had guided us through its currents, but it hadn't promised us a welcome.
