…He raised his staff. The obsidian shard glowed, and the ground beneath Adam’s feet cracked. Violet tendrils snaked toward him. Adam did not flinch. He planted his staff and called the golden light. It blazed around him, pushing back the tendrils. “I have faced my despair,” Adam said. “I have seen your lies. And I am still standing.” The Silent One smiled—a thin, cold line. “Then let us see how long you stand.” He brought his staff down. The obsidian shard exploded into a wave of pure black, swallowing the light. Adam raised his shield. Ally’s energy wove into his. Eve began a counter-chant. Kael and David braced for impact.
