…With another flutter of wings, Gabriel ascended, dissolving into the golden light of the morning sky. Adam turned to Ally, the robe now invisible, its warmth a constant presence against his skin. He took her hand, the wood-and-obsidian ring cool against his fingers. “Two days,” he said. “Two days,” she echoed. “And then we’ll face him together.” They walked back toward the house, the garden scents clinging to their clothes. Inside, the family was waiting, and the final preparations would soon begin. But for this moment, Adam felt complete—bound by family, strengthened by love, and ready for whatever the Gathering might bring.
