…As they gathered in the dining hall, a knock came at the front door. A servant opened it to reveal a young page, trembling, holding a scroll sealed with black wax imprinted with a single thread. Adam's jaw tightened. He broke the seal and read aloud: "'To the Seventh Prince. The Gathering of Princes convenes at dawn in two days. Bring only yourself. The Silent One awaits.'" He looked up, the scroll crinkling in his grip. "Two days. We're ready." But behind the words, he felt a whisper—a presence brushing against his mind-shield. Light, like a feather. The Silent One was watching. Adam strengthened his barrier, meeting Ally's gaze. Whatever came, they would face it together.
