…She held out a small stone. "Make it hover." Adam focused, drawing energy from the air, the earth, the fire in the nearby torch. He felt the threads and wove them around the stone. It wobbled, then rose a few inches. He held it there, trembling with effort, for ten seconds before it dropped. Eve smiled. "A start. Tomorrow, you will hold it for a minute." As the night deepened, Adam stood with his family, the watch on his wrist warm against his skin. He felt the love of his mother, the pride of his father, and the unwavering presence of Ally at his side. The threat of the Silent One loomed, but in this moment, he was surrounded by home.
