…The figure raised a hand, and a scroll of black parchment floated toward Adam. He caught it. The figure’s form dissolved into smoke. The rift closed. Adam unrolled the scroll. The words were written in fire that did not burn the page: A challenge, a time, a place. Eve read over his shoulder. “The Nexus of Threads is a neutral ground, but it is also a trap. If you go alone, you will face him without support.” Adam looked at the scroll. “If I don’t go, he will come here.” Kael nodded. “Then we have one week to complete your training.” Adam folded the scroll. His hands trembled, but his voice was steady. “Then we start again. Now.”
