…Taking a deep, steadying breath, Elara raised the 1999 eclipse glasses to her eyes once more. The world through the lenses was familiar now, the sun a blinding disc against a darkening sky. She focused on the light, on the memory of the shimmering, the vibration, the pull. She closed her eyes, the image of her younger self, her wide, wonder-filled eyes, imprinted on her mind. And with a silent prayer, a whisper of gratitude for the impossible gift, she waited for the echo to carry her home.
