…“Ready, Kaelen?” she asked, her voice a low growl. “As I’ll ever be,” he replied, hefting his sword. Lyra reached for the controls on the door, her fingers brushing against the cold metal. This was it. The heart of the beast. The place where the last hope of Alysia might lie hidden. She pushed the activation sequence, and the massive door groaned open, revealing an abyss of darkness, pregnant with the promise of both salvation and utter destruction.
