…Lyra didn't hesitate. She lunged, not at the knights, but towards the edge of the grove, where the jungle was thickest. She felt a searing pain in her shoulder as a plasma bolt grazed her. "Fuck!" she gasped, pushing through the thorns and undergrowth, the image of the hidden temple and the weapon burned into her mind. She had the knowledge, but at what cost? The guardians watched, their luminous eyes filled with a silent grief. The embrace of the jungle had offered her answers, but it had also delivered her into the jaws of the Crimson Empress’s most dangerous hounds. The hunt was far from over. It had just entered its deadliest phase.
