Jake said he saw someone there with a silver ring.” Aunt Carol’s eyes met mine, and for the first time, I saw a flicker of genuine fear in them, a mirror of my own. “Then we know who we’re looking for, Lyla.” The trap was set. The bait was out. And the hunter, whoever they were, was about to be lured into our carefully constructed snare.
