…It was warm and smooth beneath his fingers. He turned it, and the chocolate door swung open, revealing not more candy, but the familiar, comforting darkness of their own bedrooms. The scent of sugar faded, replaced by the faint smell of laundry detergent and dust bunnies. Drake and Lilly blinked, finding themselves tucked safely in their own beds. The morning sun streamed through their windows, casting ordinary, non-edible light. They were awake. Drake grinned, a wide, happy grin. He knew Lilly would be grinning too. He couldn’t wait to see her later, to talk about their adventure, and maybe, just maybe, to go get some real candy. But this time, they’d share it.
