…He picked up a pen, a simple, ordinary pen. He looked at the blank page of his notebook. For the first time since the cosmic event, Jack Black felt a flicker of something other than self-preservation or selfish desire. It was a nascent spark, a fragile ember in the ashes of his recent recklessness. It was the dawning of a different kind of choice. A choice that would define him, not by what he could take, but by what he could give. And as the rain continued to fall, a new kind of resolve began to settle within him, a quiet determination to face the consequences, and perhaps, just perhaps, to try and make things right.
