…The demon lord raised his hand, and the air around them crackled with dark energy. Kaito took a deep breath. There was no hiding now. No running. He had three hours until dawn, one demon lord, and a choice that would decide everything. He planted his feet and raised his own hand. “Fine. But don’t blame me if you don’t like what you see.” The demon lord laughed, and the first bolt of darkness shot toward Kaito, who caught it with a flash of light that illuminated the entire ridge. Somewhere in the camp below, a guard shouted. Hikari burst out of her tent, saw the light, and started running. But she was too far away. Kaito was alone. And that was exactly how he wanted it.
