The warmth spread through me, chasing away the lingering chill of my past. “Then I’ll still be here, Mia,” he said, his gaze unwavering. “I’ll be right here, waiting for you to let me in. Because I’m not going anywhere.” The rain had begun to soften, the drumming on the pavement fading to a gentle patter. The air still smelled of damp earth and possibility.
