…I took a deep breath, the air filling my lungs with a sense of gentle resolve. I typed, not with the practiced caution of someone building a wall, but with the tentative hope of someone reaching out. “It was,” I typed back, then paused, a small smile playing on my lips. “It was good. Thank you for thinking of me.” I sent it, and as the confirmation pinged back, a small, unfamiliar warmth spread through me. It was a fragile thing, this hope, but for the first time, it felt real.
