…He nodded. “The calm before the storm.” They stood in silence, watching the stars emerge one by one. The world was quiet, but the quiet was not peace. It was a held breath, a pause before the next movement. When the fire burned low and the others settled into sleep, David stayed awake, staring into the embers. The weave pulsed beneath his skin, alive and demanding. He thought of Yoshua’s words— You are the loom now. He closed his eyes, and for a moment, he saw it: a vast tapestry stretching across the dark, threads of gold and silver and black weaving together in an endless pattern. At the center, a knot of shadow pulsed, pulsing like a heartbeat. It was waiting. And so was he.
