To bury it, to willingly relinquish the object of their captain’s, and by extension their own, obsessive quest, would be a testament to their resilience, their loyalty, and their desperate yearning for their stolen lives. As they moved through the fading light, Red Eye felt a shift within her, a dawning understanding that the most vibrant color of all was not red, but the brilliant spectrum of a life fully lived. The quest for red had led them to their darkest hour, but perhaps, just perhaps, it would also lead them back to the light.
