But Elara knew, now, that behind that mask, there was a deep, aching void, a testament to a pain that had shaped her, twisted her, and ultimately, driven her to inflict her own shadow onto others, even onto the one sibling who might have, in a different life, been a source of light. The sunlight Elara had worked so hard to find for herself would not, it seemed, ever reach Seraphina’s shadowed heart.
