…The sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple. The air cooled, and the chirping of crickets began their nightly chorus. I closed my eyes, and for the first time in a long time, the silence that enveloped me was not the silence of fear, but the deep, resonant silence of peace.
