…A profound sense of helplessness settled over me, heavy and suffocating. It was a sensation I had rarely encountered, a foreign invader in a life often lived with a fierce independence. Now, stripped of my strength, my composure, my very sense of self, I was reduced to a fragile, shivering creature, at the mercy of an unseen force. The world outside continued its quiet slumber, oblivious to the silent battle being waged within these four walls. The crickets chirped on, their song a relentless reminder of the indifferent passage of time.
