…She closed the door behind him, the click of the lock echoing in the sudden silence. The apartment felt emptier without him, but not entirely hollow. She walked back to the window, looking out at the clearing sky. The storm had passed, but the aftermath was still settling. And somewhere in that aftermath, Serena knew, something new was beginning. Something that had started with fear, and was slowly, irrevocably, turning into something else entirely. Something that felt a lot like hope.
