But the thought of that call, the confession of his utter failure, was a chasm too wide to bridge. He was drowning in the quiet, the vast, indifferent ocean of Port Blossom mirroring the desolation within him. He was a ghost in a town that had once embraced him, a pariah in a place that had promised a new beginning, and no one, not a single soul, seemed to notice he was sinking.
