…A pause. I could feel him there, feel the weight of his attention pressing against the door like a physical force. "Tomorrow, then," he said at last. "Sleep well, ma chérie. The night holds many wonders for those who dare to dream." His footsteps retreated down the hall, and I let out a breath I had not realized I was holding. I turned back to the window, to the moon that had witnessed my revelation, and I made a silent vow. I would dare to dream. But I would also dare to wake.
